In June 2015, Laurentian University presented Jean-Marc Aubin with an honorary doctrate.
For more than 30 years he has been a champion for French-language education. He was a founding member of Collège Boréal and has served as the president of the Association canadienne française de l’Ontario. During the 1990s, he was the president of the Section de la langue française, which, under his direction, established itself as a major regional and provincial player.
Aubin is the current chair of the Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario.
In November 2010, he was presented with the Jean-Robert Gauthier Award in recognition of his exceptional contribution, and in May 2011, he was admitted to the Order of the Pléiade by the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie
