Artists on Elgin is looking forward to hosting member artist Ivan Wheale’s work for the entire month of November. There will be a reception in the gallery at 168 Elgin Street on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 1:00-4:00 PM, open to the public. This also happens to be Ivan’s birthday, so please join us for the celebration.
Ivan’s November show will feature smaller pieces of work from early in his career. You can look forward to small sketches of houses and barns on Manitoulin, along with personal watercolour cards dating back to the 1970s. It is a touching and nostalgic show that introduces some of Ivan’s lesser known work.
Born in Sunderland, England, in 1934, Ivan settled in Canada in 1957, and on Manitoulin in 1975. Self taught but renowned, Ivan’s works are featured in numerous collections nationally and internationally.
Ivan is an Advisory Board Member for The Art Gallery of Sudbury, The Ontario Arts Council, Cambrian College and the Laurentian University Task Force. He is also a Board Member with the following organizations: Northern Cancer Foundation, Northeastern Manitoulin Property Association, Manitoulin Fine Arts Association and Little Current Public Library.
Ivan has put his talent to use jurying for various organizations, some of which include: The Canada Council for the Arts, Ducks Unlimited, The Ontario Arts Council, Onaping Falls Cavalcade of Colour, etc.

Art Gallery of Sudbury honours Wheale
Artist Ivan Wheale was honoured by the Art Gallery of Sudbury at its annual general meeting Oct. 20 for his contributions to the gallery and the art community.
The Manitoulin Island artist also has an exhibition at Artists on Elgin for the month of November.
Wheale, who annually exhibits at Artists on Elgin, will be in attendance for the opening reception on Saturday November 8th from 1 to 4 pm.
The public is encouraged to come to Artists on Elgin to enjoy Wheale’s latest works, and celebrate his 80th birthday.
This collection of Recent Paintings features something truly unique for
Wheale. Of the 18 piece collection, 4 are oval shaped which gives the viewer a
different perspective of his surroundings. Staying true to his subject matter,
Wheale’s paintings reflect the life and landscapes of Manitoulin Island.
“It is always a treat when we receive Ivan’s new work,” explained Courtney
Natale business promotions co-ordinator for The Northern Artist Gallery/
