Shades of turquoise such as aqua, teal and Mediterranean blue were popular for home décor in 2019, and consumers can expect to see more of these colours in 2020 and 2021.

Appliance makers such as KitchenAid are finding demand high for their Aqua Sky appliances. Stores such as Home Depot stock “retro” turquoise microwave ovens, toasters, kettles and mixers.

In colour psychology, turquoise is said to controls and heal the emotions creating emotional balance and stability.

Turquoise, a combination of blue and a small amount of yellow, fits in on the colour scale between green and blue. It radiates the peace, calm and tranquility of blue and the balance and growth of green with the uplifting energy of yellow.

The colour works well with shades of gray and timeless classic white.

The website Empowered by Color says turquoise recharges ones spirits during times of mental stress and tiredness, alleviating feelings of loneliness. The colour helps with clear thinking and decision-making. It assists in the development of organizational and management skills. It influences rather than preaching and demanding..

It also heightens levels of creativity and sensitivity. But too much of this color in your life may give you an overactive mind and create emotional imbalance, making you either over-emotional or non-emotional.

According to the colour experts at the Pantone Colour Institute, the colour of the year for 2020 is Classic Blue.

For more than 20 years, Pantone’s colour of the year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home furnishings and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design and 2020 will be no different, says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute.

“We are living in a time that requires trust and faith. It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by Pantone 19-4052 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on,” says Eiseman. “Imbued with a deep resonance, Classic Blue provides an anchoring foundation. A boundless blue evocative of the vast and infinite evening sky, Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking, challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication.”
