Many people in their prime enjoy gardening. Gardening is great exercise and the results are a healthier body, a sound mind and a beautiful garden.
The Sudbury Horticultural Society is one of the city’s oldest clubs. It was founded in 1911.
Meetings are held on the last Sunday of the month at the Parkside Centre downtown. The meetings start at 2 pm but most members show up a half an hour or so earlier for socializing.
“Hort” members keep busy with a variety of community events such as maintaining the park at the corner of Paris and John streets, helping to beautiful school yards, and organizing the annual spring garden festival.
An annual membership costs $15. Family memberships are $20.
Members and new members are invited to take part in The Magic of Christmas floral workshop, Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Parkside Centre.
The workshop should put everyone in the mood for the Christmas season.
The purpose of the workshop is to teach basic skills of floral design, to give ideas to the experienced floral designers, to encourage participants to enter flower shows, and to attract new members to the Parkside Centre and to the Sudbury Horticultural Society.
The full-day workshop costs $50. All supplies for two Christmas arrangements will be provided, as well as refreshments. More information is available from members or at sudburyhorticulturalsociety.ca.
